Natalie and I have been sponsored by STOATS only a short while (time of writing Sept 2012) but we have been nutritionally involved with them for a lot longer :P Nat and I first came across STOATS when our friend had one of their famous Porridge Oat Bars on a trip to Spain. Amazingly he made the Porridge Bar last the whole 6 weeks of our trip, his reason being that they fill you up so well that a small bite is just enough to keep you going when your energy reserves are running thin.
After that trip, we started noticing STOATS everywhere we went. When the EICA: Ratho café started selling them we thought it was too good to be true, well it wasn’t, in a few months time it was even better when Natalie and I sent an e-mail to Jess (STOATS Marketing Manager) to ask for sponsorship and they replied:
Jess @ STOATS
And that is the story of how we got sponsored by STOATS. Call it a small world, but a month after our sponsorship deal coming to fruition, I found out that Bob Arnott (one of 2 brains behind the genius of STOATS) was actually my cousin Michaels oldest friend– neither of us realised until now :D
STOATS in my eyes is an amazing company to be involved with for a number of reasons. At the moment it’s only small, but that is part of it’s character. When visiting the factory (a small industrial unit out at Portobello in Edinburgh) you get to meet the folk behind this fantastic oaty product, all of which are very warm and friendly people, super keen to promote a healthy energetic lifestyle as well as their brand product which actively encourages all that they believe in.
They sponsor a number of other athletes as well as myself and Nat including champion Triathletes, trickster Unicyclists and they even gave a hamper of STOATS products to Dave Mac to aid him in his inspirational ascent of the Long Hope route!
STOATS are incredibly adventurous in the development of their product and brand, eager to seek out better ways of providing a product that is both high quality in nutrition and that tastes so good too. They have recently thundered their way into the sports performance market with two new exciting products which will hopefully only be the beginning of their sports performance range.
Stoats began in 2005 with an idea to serve fresh porridge at music festivals. We listened to our mates moan and groan about what they had to eat to survive when partying at music festivals and we knew there had to be something filling, healthy and tasty to eat that didn’t involve greasy burgers.
So we decided porridge was the future. Bob and Tony got a cute wee mobile porridge bar and started selling freshly made porridge across the UK, and the festival audiences loved it.
Shortly after this, we were chatting to our customers at festivals and they said it would be great if we could make more oat products. They wanted food that was filling, tasty and natural, packed with energy and goodness.
So over time, we’ve grown our range of oat-based products. We take our time sourcing the finest Scottish oats and work on bringing blends of different types of oats together to give our products a distinctive texture.
