After discovering climbing
completely by chance aged 8 after trying it out at a shopping centre, I
quickly became an addict! From being a member of the kids’ club “RockRatz”
at Glasgow Climbing Centre to competing in the British Regional Youth
Climbing Series Final within 4 months of starting, I was already determined
to become a member of the British Junior Climbing Team and to represent my
country at an international level.
In 2003 my dream came true as I was
selected as a member of the GB Team aged 11. Two years later I competed in
my first European Youth Cup in Imst, Austria and placed 4th,
giving me a taste for the international circuit. In the same year I placed 5th
in the World Youth Championships in Beijing, which provided me with
confidence and an incentive to train harder - as a result I achieved podium
places and enjoyed many successful years of competing at junior level
internationally, the highlight being a 1st Place in EYS Kranj in
2007.
Now that I am competing at Senior
level and a member of the GB Senior Team, I aim to compete in some senior
internationals this year as well as achieving higher grades outdoors. This
spring I climbed my first 8a as well as onsighting several 7c’s and hope to
continue this upward progression over the years to come. I also wish to
continue my coaching work and that my experience of 11 years of climbing and
competing can be used to help and inspire others to achieve their goals.
